Product Announcement: New Generation of SyncFire High End NTP Appliance for Large Scale NTP Environments

The Meinberg SyncFire product family has been designed for data center environments and for synchronizing large numbers of NTP or SNTP clients. The all new SyncFire SF1100 represents the second generation of the worlds strongest Enterprise NTP appliance.

The first SyncFire generation already managed to synchronize millions of SNTP/NTP clients. The new Meinberg SyncFire SF1100 is capable of handling up to 750,000 NTP requests per second, depending on its CPU- and network interface configuration.

The Firmware of Meinbergs SyncFire models offers the same impressive feature set as the LANTIME series. The most important enterprise features: up to 99 virtual IP addresses and VLAN IDs, full IPv6 support, DSCP and IEEE 802.1P traffic priorization, external authorization based on RADIUS or TACACS+ plus the possibility to configure redundant network connections using active/backup or LACP based bonding. Both power supplies and fans are available in a redundant setup and can be replaced without having to power off the system (hotswap).

The 6th generation firmware (LTOS6) constantly receives the latest security updates as well as new features and functions, free of charge for the whole lifetime of the product. Well known high quality software components from the open source world are building the foundation for LTOS6, e.g.: Linux 4.x, OpenSSH 7.x, OpenSSL 1.x and, of course, NTP 4.2.8.

Two CPU models are available as an order option: a 1.9GHz Quadcore Intel Xeon or a 2.6GHz Intel Xeon with Hyperthreading) CPU. The number of physical network interfaces can be chosen as well: different combinations of Gigabit and 10GE/SFP+ network ports are possible, up to 2x1GE + 4x 10GE/SFP+ or up to 10x 1GE, for example. One or two integrated hardware clocks can be selected (GPS, GPS/GLONASS). The RDT variant comes with no internal hardware reference and instead synchronizes to one or more upstream NTP servers, becoming a high end stratum 2 NTP server that can take all the load away from your stratum 1 systems, if required.
